Mineral salts

In resistance and endurance sports it is advisable to be very well hydrated before taking on any physical exercise (Euhydration), especially in temperatures above 25º or in very humid conditions. This is because the speed of dehydration when doing sport is greater than the speed of rehydration. Therefore, we recommend using food supplements which enhance the athlete’s hydration around 20 to 40 minutes before exercise, especially when the temperature is above 25º. Between 400 and 500 ml of fluid should be consumed.

Recommendations by the European Scientific Committee on Food, American College of Sports Medicine and the Spanish Federation of Sports Medicine regarding the osmolality and concentration of sodium in hydro-electrolyte replacement drinks:

  • Osmolality between 200-300 mOsm/kg of water.
  • Sodium: provides between 20-50 mmol/l of sodium (460-1150mg/l)
