Catalonian Triathlon Champion at Middle-Distance, Champion of the Catalonia Championship of Triathlon-Cross (Calella-BCN) and Champion of the Half-Triathlon of Balaguer (BCN)

The long sporting career of Mercè Tusell, member of C.N.Reus Ploms (Tarragona), started with Mountain-Biking, where she was champion of Catalonia in junior and youth levels, before gaining her first elite title in 2006. She then started in Duathlon Cross and Triathlon Cross, scooping 11 regional titles:

  • 8-time Champion of Catalonia in Duatlon-Cross
  • 3-time Champion in Triathlon-Cross

She has also burst onto the national scene with 4 Spanish triumphs:

  • 2 Spanish Championships in Triathlon-Cross in 2012 and 2014
  • 1 Duathlon-Cross in 2012
  • 1 XTERRA Spain Tour title in 2014 (She won in Granada and Madrid and came fifth in the World Tour Race of La Manga)

That same year, Tusell progressed to middle distance, where she soon became successful. She came second in the Half Sailfish Berga (2014), a feat she would repeat in 2015, coupled with first place in the Half-Triathlon of Balaguer (BCN) 2015.

Despite all this, she has never abandoned mountain-biking. She came runner-up in Spain in the Triathlon-Cross in Almazan (2016) and in the elite Spain Duathlon-Cross in Aguilar de Campóo (2017). She also added another runner-up spot, this time in middle distance, in the elite Spain in Orihuela (2016).

Also in 2017, Tusell gained more success, starting the season with three important victories. They came in the Catalonia Half Distance Triathlon (Terres de l' Ebre-TG), the Catalonia Triathlon-Cross Championship (Calella-BCN), and a victory in the Half Triathlon of Balaguer (BCN). She also managed fifth place in the Middle Distance in the famous Triathlon of Zarautz and tenth ‘pro’ position in the IM-70:30 Barcelona-Costa del Maresme). All the while, she has her sights set on the Ironman distance.

All in all, she is an extraordinary athlete, with a diploma in Physiotherapy from the UAB in 2005, post-graduate degree in clinical psycho-neuroimmunology (PNI) 2010 and Osteopathy at the ECO Barcelona in 2016. She somehow manages to combine her passion for sport with her busy schedule and profession as a clinical therapist.
